Hans Poelzig urodził się w 1869 roku w Berlinie, był architektem reprezentującym styl modernizmu. Był członkiem, a przez pewien czas przewodniczącym niemieckiego werkbundu (Der Deutsche Werkbund). Pracował z Dreźnie, Wrocławiu i okolicach oraz w Berlinie, choć u schyłku życia przygotowywał się do wyjazdu do Turcji. Jest projektantem słynnego wrocławskiego Pawilonu Czterech Kopuł i domu Handlowego przy ulicy Ofiar Oświęcimskich. Zmarł w Berlinie w 1936 roku.
